Central California's ENLACE Program special development teams are engaged in field-based research, pilot-tests, and expert evaluation of high-potential program ideas to include in the comprehensive Phase II plan.

bullet Early Developmental Outreach

Research indicates that many children begin as early as in grades 5 and 6 to make decisions related to whether they will go on to attend some kind of postsecondary education program after high school.  Particularly among children who are the first in their families to attend college, many of whose peers will choose to not attend, "perceived opportunity" is a critical factor....  (Continued)

bullet Enhancing Postsecondary Eligibility

Central California's rural Hispanic students suffer the lowest overall postsecondary eligibility rates in the state.  Data further indicate that the rate of high school completion is falling dramatically with each generation.  Conditions prevalent in small, rural school districts and impoverished communities often preclude adopting effective but expensive alternative forms of instruction, student academic support, and retention strategies....  (Continued)

bullet Education, Family, and Culture

More than a decade of research conducted by social scientists at Fresno State has shown that family and culture are significant factors in rural Hispanic students' decisions regarding college.  Any effort to modify and improve college-preparation and college-going behaviors among central California's rural Hispanic student populations must weave together family values, cultural preferences, and individual aspirations...  (Continued)

bulletInstructional Technologies & Learning Management

Innovative and affordable instructional technologies and learning management systems are desperately needed in the small, impoverished schools enrolling central California's rural Hispanic populations.  Lacking virtually all of the resources and flexibility of course schedules and programming found in many of California's larger schools and districts, central California's rural schools have limited practical access to new technologies for instructional and learning-support purposes.  (Continued)
