California
State University, Fresno (Fresno State) is one of 18 Hispanic Serving
Institutions in the nation to receive a W. K. Kellogg Foundation ENLACE
Phase I development grant. ENLACE, an acronym for ENGAGING
LATINO COMMUNITIES
FOR EDUCATION,
is a special Kellogg Foundation initiative to foster innovative
cooperative partnerships between schools, colleges, communities,
businesses, and students to increase opportunities for Latino students
to pursue a higher education.

businesses, and communities are doing to develop a comprehensive plan to
improve postsecondary educational access in the central San Joaquin
Valley's numerous rural schools and communities. This site also

Phase I Program Components
The
ENLACE
Program at Fresno State will work cooperatively with small, rural schools and other
community agencies serving large numbers of Hispanic
students. The unique focus of this ENLACE project derives from the
fact that many of the students who will be served are the children of
seasonally employed agricultural workers. The educational
challenges among central California's rural schools are made even more
challenging by the presence of factors such as seasonal migration for
employment purposes, limited education of parents, and lack of
peer-mentors who have attended college, themselves.
